Meet the Teen Artists Revolutionizing the Sneaker Industry

With the sneaker industry forecasted to be $119.5B by 2026, and young adults the biggest sneaker consumers, who better to design sneakers than young people?

Artists For Humanity (AFH) provides under-resourced teens the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design. AFH is built on the philosophy that engagement in the creative process is a powerful force for social change, and that creative entrepreneurship is a productive and life-changing opportunity for young people. Bridging economic, racial, and social divisions, AFH enriches urban communities by introducing young people’s creativity to the business community.

Boston teen Dion McKinley dreamed of creating his own streetwear line with designs that captured the essence of his local community. Through his (paid) design job with Artists for Humanity, (AFH), and their collaboration NoBull, Dion’s designs are now sneakers and ready for sale. (More details here). Dion’s job as a designer for AFH not only reaffirmed his artistic talent but also taught him about the business application of art and design and the opportunities to use his skills for good paying jobs. As a senior in HS, Dion feels that this is only the beginning of a long, successful design career.
