Black-Owned Drinkware Brand Looks to Make Hydration High-Fashion

“The blocks logo symbolizes the blocks in our communities! It is a symbol of unity, bringing all our blocks together with one common goal, hydration,” says Morris.

Until now the drinkware industry has overlooked the Urban community in branding and marketing. That’s why founder Jairus Morris created a stylish bottle brand by and for the culture. Morris aims to make health and wellness a priority through the encouragement of increased water intake– particularly in neighborhoods considered food deserts.

A food desert is an area that has limited access to affordable and nutritious food, in contrast with an area with higher access to supermarkets or vegetable shops with fresh foods, which is called a food oasis.

Founded in New Jersey, SUPLMNT was designed with urban health in mind. After Morris learned that his mother was battling breast cancer he began researching hereditary diseases, and learned that these diseases are caused more by the habits. Many of these habits we inherit from parents.

“One huge change that I made was trading in Kool Aid and other high sugar drinks for water.,” Morris said. “Water was never encouraged in the communities I grew up in. No one ever expressed the importance of it– the ability water has to regulate the body.”

Too many inner-city neighborhoods are food deserts, of urban communities with disproportionate inaccessibility to healthier food options, forcing residents to adopt and hand down unhealthy eating habits. A change needs to be made, and drinking more water needs to become a habit.
